SSFC Decides Officers

At a meeting tonight, the Student Services Finance Committee selected their officers for the 2008-09 school year. Kurt Gosselin will be serving as chair next year and Adam Porton will be serving as Vice-Chair.

Gosselin will be starting his third year on SSFC and promises to continue the reforms initiated last year. Gosselin ran for chair last year and lost out to Gallagher by a single vote. Porton also has plenty SSFC experience, serving as WISPIRG treasurer for two years and spending one year on the committee.

Both are prepared to continue the reforms to a broken segregated fee system and anticipate further reductions in the segregated fees for the coming year.

Gosselin, a libertarian with only SSFC experience, and Porton, a progressive with GSSF experience, have very different political viewpoints. I feel their varying backgrounds will be helpful in providing a balance when dealing with student issues. In fact, it sounds very similar to the Gallagher/ Flores team.

Out of all the parts of ASM, SSFC, and Shared Governance, appear to be the two staying afloat.

Thank you for the praise and the comparison. I truly believe that this year’s SSFC can continue the work we began last session and propel the segregated fee system into a higher level of sustainability. (However, I don’t know if I would go so far as to declare myself a libertarian) 🙂

I think the SSFC is made up of a bunch of right-wing hacks who want to gut the budget. They are all conservatives, every one of them.
